During a two-day visit to Interlochen Center for the Arts, U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley today called for music and the arts to be a basic part of every child's education.

The nation's top educator toured the Interlochen campus and observed classroom activities at the nation's oldest and best-known fine arts camp and boarding high school. After the tour, Riley dined in a cafeteria with 8- to 11-year-old boys.
