MIAMI BEACH -- All children with gastric or duodenal ulcers who are infected with Helicobacter pylori should be treated for the infection, but current data don't support prophylactic treatment of asymptomatic infected children who don't have an ulcer, pediatric gastroenterologist William F. Balistreri advised.
The urea breath test appears to be the best diagnostic test currently available, but others may be on the horizon, Dr. Balistreri said at the annual Masters of Pediatrics conference sponsored by the University of Miami.
