Now that the SOL tests are done, students and schools can put away their No. 2 pencils for the year, right?

This is the age of educational accountability, which relies on data to track - and, educators hope, improve - schools and students. One of its first offspring has been a litter of standardized tests mandated by the state and by individual cities. Most of the tests have been added in the past five years.
Tests to see how students do at the start of the year, how much they've progressed midyear and how they end up when the year's done.
