Area school children once again got a front-row seat this year to a banding program that tracks the health and migratory habits of birds.
For 20 years, as part of a program operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Back Bay Wildlife Refuge, Dr. Rob Simpson has overseen the program. Simpson uses students from his natural resources classes at Lord Fairfax Community College in Fairfax to help him tag the migratory birds. Lord Fairfax is the only community college in Virginia that grants a two-year degree in natural resource management.
