A strike by truck drivers who haul concrete could delay roadwork and construction throughout the area.
Truck drivers for Teamsters Local 786 went on strike Thursday, disrupting work sites at the peak of what road builders call the busiest construction year ever in Illinois.
Major road reconstructions such as the Stevenson Expressway, the Hillside Strangler on the Eisenhower Expressway and Route 83 in Mount Prospect were expected to be hardest hit.
Concrete high-rises and foundations for houses also were expected to be delayed, industry officials said.
