Nearly a century and a half after its founding, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints still faces an identity crisis of sorts.
The crisis, though, doesn't come from within the body of the church. Members know who they are: an international Christian church with 250,000 members throughout some 40 nations. Their stated mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love and peace.
The identity confusion involves perceptions of the outside world, where the church still is associated with the Mormon religion and might result from a common history the two organizations shared.
