''Longitude'' is a film about obsession. Jeremy Irons is a man obsessed. The two were made for each other.
Irons, the British actor who won an Oscar for the 1990 film ''Reversal of Fortune,'' hasn't been seen in a film for more than two years, choosing instead to devote much of his time and energy to refurbishing part of a 15th-century Irish castle.
''Longitude,'' a four-hour film made for British TV that will have its American premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday on A&E, is based on a 1995 book by Dava Sobel, the true story of two men centuries apart.
