The first turpentine processing enterprise in Hainan has been completed and put on stream at the foot of the Bawang Mount. It shows that the history of only selling raw materials in Hainan pine gum industry has been brought to an end.
Hainan has rich pinus finlaysoniana resources. There is more than 1 million mu(lmu=l/15ha) of pinus finlaysoniana trees already tapped or ready for tapping. However, no forest chemical industry exists in the area. For long years pine gum has been made into turpentine through simple processing and refining for sale to other provinces at a low profit.
