From a block away, it sounds like an ordinary music festival.

When you get closer, you see the kids. And the parents and grandparents, and the young adults with strollers, and the teenagers giggling self-consciously as they bob to the rhythm of the hip-hop band onstage. And then you might notice black people and white people and Hispanic people, mingling and listening to the music. And if you listen a moment, you might find there's more to this stuff than first meets the ear.

Onstage Thursday at the Soul Liberation Festival, the group Eastside dedicated a song to struggling people.
