While your Feb. 3 article on the Chesapeake Police Department is essentially accurate, I would like to add a number of key points.
The Chesapeake Police Department is among the best public safety agencies in the nation. According to the FBI's 1998 Uniform Crime Report, Chesapeake is the fifth safest city in the country among cities with populations between 190,000 to 205,000.
The annual survey of Chesapeake residents, by the independent polling firm Continental Research, consistently demonstrates very high satisfaction ratings (over 90 percent positive) with police services and the level of safety residents feel in their neighborhoods and the city as a whole.
