YEARS AGO when artist Fletcher Bryant saw a beautifully carved flight of birds at a wildfowl art show in Maryland, he was so enamored by the realistic sculpture that he returned home determined to bring an art show like that to Virginia Beach.
``I couldn't believe what I saw,'' Bryant said. ``We didn't have anything like it here, and this area was such a great hunting area.''
That was in 1974, and within two years, Bryant and a group of 16 hunting and decoy enthusiasts had formed the Back Bay Wildfowl Guild and presented the first Back Bay Wildfowl Festival.
