FEW MUSICIANS make their living doing just one thing. They have always had to put together a variety of skills and do several different things - teach, perform, conduct and so on.
Robert L. Kriner's range of musical activities was greater than most. But he did so many things not because he had to but because he loved doing them.
He was scheduled to play the string bass in a jazz group at the Unitarian Church of Norfolk last Saturday evening. Not feeling well that morning because of recent chemotherapy treatments - in a battle with colon cancer that he seemed to be winning - he had decided not to play.
