FOR ORGANIST and Cantata Chorus music director Allen Shaffer, the ``Passion According to Saint Matthew'' is the culmination of his lifelong passion for Johann Sebastian Bach.
Over 40 years he's learned most of the great composer's organ works and performed all of his major organ pieces. Fifteen years ago Shaffer took up harpsichord and has since performed many of Bach's works for that instrument.
Friday evening, and then again Sunday afternoon, at Christ and Saint Luke's Church in Norfolk he will present Bach's monumental musical drama, along with the 43-voice Cantata Chorus, some of the area's finest soloists, the 45-voice Virginia Children's Chorus ...
