Sandra Smith-Jones, Ann R. Wiggins and C.G. ``Carol'' Blue-stein are willing to give up their jobs for seats on their local school boards.
They would have to.
Smith-Jones is a full-time teacher in Virginia Beach. Blue-stein is a substitute teacher in the Beach, and Wiggins is a substitute teacher in Chesapeake. All are candidates in the May 2 school board elections.
According to the state code, school employees can't serve on school boards because, in effect, they'd be their own bosses. The boards vote on budgets, promotions, hirings and firings that affect school employees.
But the code doesn't say that those who serve can't have ...
