PHILADELPHIA _ The Whiz Kids took the field again Saturday night, gathering at Veterans Stadium to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1950 National League championship.
Ten players and a coach were honored before the Phillies-Orioles game as the culmination of a weekend of reminiscing and repeating all the favorite old stories.
"So many guys aren't here, but we have only good memories of that year," said Robin Roberts, the 73-year-old Hall of Fame pitcher who led the team in 1950 with 20 wins. "It was a great bunch, and for most of us, it was the only time we were in the World Series."
