ATLANTA _ The last time the All-Star Game was staged in Atlanta, Hank Aaron's thoughts were with his mother and family.
In the 1972 Midsummer Classic at old Atlanta Stadium, Aaron hit a two-run homer off Gaylord Perry in the sixth inning, earning a fourth standing ovation from his hometown fans on a night he lists near the top of his career highlights.
Even so, by the time the National League won, 4-3, thanks to a 10th-inning single by Joe Morgan, Aaron already was on a plane to Mobile, Ala., so that he could have a full off day with his mother, Estella.
Now, 28 years later, the All-Star Game will return to Atlanta on Tuesday night. ...
