ITALIAN football has given unanimous backing to Giovanni Trapattoni's appointment as national team coach, declaring him the 'right man for the right job'.
The 61-year-old former Juventus and Inter Milan coach took charge on Thursday following the resignation of Dino Zoff.
Trapattoni, the most successful coach in Serie A, has signed a two-year contract which takes him to the end of the 2002 World Cup finals.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) chose Trapattoni ahead of one other candidate, under-21 squad chief Marco Tardelli.
