The Madison School District appears poised to dump its exclusive vending contract with Coke, apparently becoming the first large school district in the nation to do an about-face on the issue.
School Board members are scheduled to begin discussing Monday whether to approve a two-year extension of the original three-year contract, which expires next month.
But five of seven board members already say they oppose renewal, citing concerns about corporate influence in public education and the dubious nutritional value of soft drinks.
Their decision is expected to reverberate nationally.
