Greg Drasler's ornate, grandly symbolic interiors can be understood as visual metaphors for the self, which is, after all, an interior construction. At the same time, they are formal statements that seem to exist for the sake of psychological mystery. They remain enigmatic puzzles meant to be meditated on, in the same way that we consider a Magritte.
Restless Bedroom (1992), a large oil, depicts a room with walls and ceiling entirely covered by wallpaper bearing a vinelike motif. Not a single inch of plain surface allows the eye to rest.
