Better Beta Sony's answer to Super-VHS is ED Beta. It's a recording system that exceeds television-broadcast standards for picture resolution. Another Beta-VHS battle? No. This system is geared to semi-professional users.
The small crowded conference room in Sony Corp.'s New York City offices was filled with engineers from Japan. At the far end of the room I saw two of the company's best video monitors flanking a smaller professional monitor. With the draperies drawn, the glow of red LEDs from three VCRs drew my attention.
