The government has replaced 18 overseas mission chiefs, including ambassadors to the United States and China, in a regular shuffle, a Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry spokesman said yesterday.
The shuffle affected 13 ambassadors, five consuls general and two ministers at Korean embassies in the United States and Japan.
Former ruling party lawmaker Yang Sung-chul and former foreign affairs-trade minister Hong Soon-young were appointed as Korea's ambassadors to the United States and China, respectively. Yang and Hong are set to replace Ambassadors Lee Hong-koo and Kwon Byong-hyon.
