As snow fell outside his window, new Federal Way Schools Superintendent Tom Murphy swiveled in his chair, gazing around the office that was, in the end, his for the asking.
A nationwide search for the head of the state's seventh-largest school district ended when Murphy, after much soul-searching, told the Federal Way School Board he would take on the job he has come to love while serving as acting superintendent.
The decision drew cheers from district educators, parents, community leaders and the School Board, which unanimously approved his appointment Monday night.
