Boeing may be about to go where no company has gone before in the space business.
In a bold move that analysts said yesterday will finally establish the aerospace giant as the major player it wants to be in the space business of the 21st century, Boeing is reported to be near an agreement to buy Hughes Space and Communications Co. for $3.75 billion in cash.
Hughes is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial satellites.
The deal, which could be announced within days, was first reported by Bloomberg News. The Wall Street Journal and New York Times quoted unnamed executives close to the matter as saying an agreement is near.
