Time is running out to save the incredible stories that Washington's World War II veterans carry in their memories.
``Our numbers are rapidly dwindling,'' said William Merifield of Olympia, who wants the state to record the veterans' stories. ``We need to work quickly, or many memories of the war that saved the world will be lost forever.''
He is among the veterans supporting a bill that would establish an oral history project to help educators teach about World War II. Using stories collected from veterans and citizens who contributed to the war effort, the state would prepare instructional guides for schools.
