At this point, they are only calling him their ``top candidate,'' but the regents of Washington State University clearly want Lane Rawlins to become WSU's next president.
V. Lane Rawlins, currently president of the University of Memphis, is no stranger to the Pullman campus. He was there for 18 years, the last four as WSU's vice provost.
``The pool of candidates is very well qualified, but Lane Rawlins is by far the most impressive,'' said WSU regent Peter Goldmark, who is chairman of the search committee.
