I have never understood why gays fight so hard to get into the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Fifth Avenue.
The idea of wanting to go to an Irish parade, rather than having to go, is mind-boggling.
The mere tap-tap sound that signals the approach of ``Riverdance'' or a pack of wolfhounds in green doggy sweaters fills me with dread.
I am still haunted by the memory of waking up in St. Louis, where the Ancient Order of Hibernians was holding a convention, hearing the strains of ``When the Saints Go Marching In,'' and running to the hotel window in time to watch, blushing in childish embarrassment, as my parents led an Irish parade down the street.
