t has been 37 years since Edith Piaf died on a cold October morning in Paris. Her singing - always raucous and passionate, often despairing, sometimes sentimental - kept the public's attention for a long time, then drifted out of earshot. Her name is a mystery to many of the young today, both inside and outside France.
Raquel Bitton aims to change that, reviving Piaf's name for those who remember her legendary presence and introducing her to the rest.
Born in Morocco but now a cabaret singer based in San Francisco, the diminutive Bitton is on a cross-country tour from Los Angeles to New York and Montreal with her 20-member orchestra.
