There is plenty of glamor, wit and dramatic intensity, but nothing cheap or obvious, in San Francisco Ballet's current season at the War Memorial Opera House.
First-class dancing prevails.
More than one-third of the nearly 70 dancers in the company were born outside the United States. Fourteen of the 20 principals are Canadian, Cuban, Spanish, French, Australian, Ukrainian, Russian and Chinese.
For all their individuality of look and temperament, they cohere into a unified ensemble when needed. They share superb technical accomplishments, purity of classical style and an ability to adapt to whatever is put before them in terms of movement.
