Accusing some physicians of committing ``infanticide,'' a lawyer for the state of Nebraska urged the Supreme Court yesterday to allow the state to ban a particular kind of late-term abortion called ``partial-birth'' abortion by critics of the procedure.
``The state interest here is drawing a bright line between abortion and infanticide,'' said Nebraska Attorney General Don Stenberg, who asked the justices to reinstate a 1996 law making it a crime for doctors to perform certain types of abortions.
Thirty other states have a similar law; Washington is not one of them.
