Pruning trees and shrubs can be a significant challenge for gardeners. Often we try to copy the kind of pruning we see all around us - with regrettable results. Much ``common knowledge'' about pruning is inaccurate. Many self-styled pruning experts are misinformed. Older manuals and handbooks contain outdated information that has been superseded by improved technology.
