To the fine writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, this little message: Get an editor and get a grip!
The man who made porn stunningly sweet in the overindulgent ''Boogie Nights'' shows in his sophomore effort, ''Magnolia,'' that he still hasn't learned when to leave his work on the cutting-room floor.
And, as bizarre as the subject matter of ''Boogie Nights'' was, it can't hold a candle to the haunting, beautiful and confounding bizarreness of ''Magnolia.''
This is a classic case of a critic involved in a love-hate relationship with a movie.
