Having been born 15 minutes before her, Joseph Bernard McNamara Jr. was protective of his twin sister, Margaret McNamara.
''He always took up for me,'' she said. Being his twin ''was wonderful.''
''We had a lot in common,'' she said. ''But I was the musician, and he was the lawyer.''
Mr. McNamara of Dayton died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was 79.
Mr. McNamara joined the Army shortly after graduation from college and spent World War II as a bombardier in the 15th Air Force in the European theater. When he came back, he went to law school at University of Kentucky and graduated in 1948.
