Clarion Corp. of America, one of the early leaders of Northern Kentucky's light-manufacturing boom, will close its plant in Walton and eliminate 83 jobs by April 1.
The car-stereo manufacturer is keeping a distribution hub and about 125 jobs in the growing Boone County city, Clarion America President Larry H. Maxey said Friday.
But Walton's manufacturing operation and jobs will shift to four plants in Mexico, where labor is cheaper and Clarion's operations are more concentrated.
''We had been planning this because of the need to focus our manufacturing in one location and to get the economies that that generates,'' Maxey said.
