Dressed in elaborate costumes, revelers came by the hundreds from all over the area to dance, to sing and just to have a good time. Their favorite destinations were Covington's Odd Fellows Building and Drexelius Hall and Newport's Phoenix Hall and Turners Club.
It was Mardi Gras time in Northern Kentucky.
Mardi Gras comes from a French holiday held on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This year Mardi Gras occurs tomorrow.
The tradition of Mardi Gras is most notably celebrated in New Orleans in this country, but it also is observed in many Southern cities.
