''The X-Files'' will return for another season on Fox TV, but it's still a mystery if David Duchovny will reprise his starring role as FBI agent Fox Mulder. Series creator Chris Carter reached a last-minute deal Tuesday for an eighth season, and Duchovny's co-star, actress Gillian Anderson, already has signed for another year. But Duchovny remains in negotiations as Fox prepares to present its fall schedule to advertisers Thursday in New York. Carter said he could write around a missing Duchovny, but would rather not.
