I'm a New Yorker; in fact, my children are sixth-generation New Yorkers. Specifically, we're upstaters--residents of a region that will cast close to 40 percent of the vote in the Hillary Clinton-Rick Lazio Senate, race. Contrary to what many Americans think when they hear "New York," upstate is a very commonsensical, heavily rural, basically conservative part of the country. I've always said the American Midwest starts at the Hudson River, and my Syracuse-area neighbors vote much more like Ohioans or Kansans than like residents of Manhattan, Boston, or Washington. We are the swing electors who will make or break Hillary Clinton.
