British-owned hamburger chain Burger King, which plans to float early next year, is in for a grilling by its mighty rival, The Big Mac.
Burger King is to McDonald's what Pepsi is to Coca Cola - the perennial number two and that image will weigh on Burger King's valuation when British food and drink group Diageo Plc sells an initial 20 per cent stake.
With 27,000 outlets, 1999 sales of pounds 25 billion and a market capitalisation of pounds 29 billion, McDonald's towers over Burger King, which has just 11,000 stores and 1999 sales of pounds 10.9 billion.
