The National Park Service has taken the reins from the First Flight Centennial Foundation on planning the 100th anniversary of flight.
In a meeting in Greensboro last week, Francis Peltier, superintendent of the National Park Service Outer Banks Group, essentially undid a 1997 agreement between the nonprofit fund-raising entity and the park service, the owner of the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
``The National Park Service will be taking a stronger role in leadership in planning of the event,'' Park Superintendent Mary Doll said.
Peltier could not be reached for comment.
