You may have heard this before, but this time it's no false alarm: Brian Wilson is back. After years of public psychodramas and not-quite comebacks, the Beach Boys' mastermind turned up last night in better shape and stronger voice that longtime fans would dare hope for.
It didn't hurt that the second half of the show was devoted to the Beach Boys' 1966 epic "Pet Sounds" - one of the few "greatest albums ever made" that lives up to its reputation. But even before that, Wilson showed a sense of purpose that was largely missing in his Symphony Hall performance last year.
