SAN FRANCISCO -- Women undergoing pelvic sonography need not be subjected to the discomfort of having a full bladder.
For decades women have been asked to fill their bladders to optimize transabdominal ultrasound. But improvements in technology and routine use of transvaginal as well as transabdominal sonography make a full bladder unnecessary, if not undesirable, inmost cases, Dr. Beryl R. Benacerraf said at the annual meeting of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
A combination of transvaginal ultrasound and transabdominal ultrasound on an empty bladder using compression will suffice for nearly all pelvic exams, results of a 206-patient ...
