WHITE MINERAL OIL prices are facing upward pressure from rising raw material costs and tightening supplies. The major producers increased their white mineral oil prices by 35 cents in the third quarter of 1999 and another 20 cents in March. The March increase was marginally successful, and industry sources say another increase may follow as feedstock costs continue to climb.
The cost pressure in the white mineral oil market is caused by high prices for base lubricant oil feedstocks. The high base lube oil prices are in line with higher crude oil costs and a tightness in base lube oil supplies. Several plant turnarounds this year and the sale of a base lube oil ...
