In the course of bilateral discussions with the Quadrilateral countries (United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand), the European Community drew up a compromise which set forth a description of the precautionary principle to be incorporated in the Codex Secretariat's official proposal (Alinorm 01/33) and to be supplemented by the subsequent formulation of guidelines for its application.
