The Arlington Heights Park District has sounded the message: The free ride for nonresidents is over.
If you are not an Arlington Heights resident and you don't pay taxes to the park district, expect any fees to participate in the park district's programs to skyrocket.
Since voters in March rejected a tax increase, the park district has been scouring existing operations to squeeze out every penny's worth.
Park district programs last year raised $944,000. The new fees and rates - which were approved this week and will go into place for all winter programs - could increase revenue by more than $50,000 next year.
