There are nights when Tim Smith stands alone on a pitcher's mound in Princess Anne Park and throws into an empty backstop.
Hundreds of pitches, working the corners and the throwing angles; fine tuning the curveball that breaks at the helmet and lands in the strike zone.
It is these nights that sustain the 41-year-old softball pitcher. In a game that keeps getting younger, Smith keeps fighting to maintain his status as the best A-league pitcher in the state.
