Jul. 24--John Merwin goes back a long way with Tri Valley Growers. As a member of the giant agricultural cooperative, Merwin has delivered his tomatoes to its processing plants for nearly 20 years.
Family ties go back a lot farther. His father and uncle were members of Tri Valley when it was first created by the merger of two other agricultural co-ops nearly 40 years ago. And before that, his grandfather had been a member of one of those co-ops.
But there's little room for nostalgia these trying days for Merwin and his two cousins, Peter and Larry Hunn, whose family partnership farms in the Clarksburg area of the Delta.
