CALL IT the ``Roman Chainsaw Massacre.''
Shakespeare's spokesman knows what he's talking about when he asks, ``Dost thou not perceive that Rome is but a wilderness of tigers?''
``Titus Andronicus,'' the second production of the 22nd Virginia Shakespeare Festival, is an unparalleled bloodbath, even for a civilization, 400 years later, that produces things like ``Nightmares on Elm Street'' and related cinematic slashers. It's a theatrical adventure that should be seen, because this product of the young Shakespeare is seldom produced.
One can see why. It's not the most poetic or thought-provoking of the Bard's efforts. But, then, we all had to ...
