Six weeks ago, Vern Wagner had his retirement party. With the Kingdome reduced to rubble, the work of the Dome's last director was done.
But he still had vacation time coming when he died Thursday afternoon of leukemia at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
Mr. Wagner was 63.
``It's been another blow for those that worked at the Kingdome and were from another era,'' said former Kingdome spokeswoman Carol Keaton. ``It's nothing but sad.''
Keaton remembered Mr. Wagner, a big bear of a man, for his handshakes.
