PRESBY SURGEON SUCCESSFULLY PERFORMS FIRST

DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT IN EASTERN U.S.

PITTSBURGH, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- A Washington, Pa., native has become Presbyterian-University Hospital's first double lung transplant recipient.

The surgery, announced today, was performed on April 19, 1988, and replaced the diseased lungs of William Becker, age 29, now of Painesville, Ohio. The procedure represents only the seventh double lung transplant to be performed in this country and the first in the Eastern United States.
