Hoping to attract al fresco diners to a new downtown Mount Prospect, village trustees have taken a first step toward allowing outdoor dining.
Trustees last week tentatively approved the village community development department's proposal to give outdoor dining a green light in business districts like downtown. Outdoor dining is not now permitted anywhere in Mount Prospect.
The proposal already has been approved by the village's zoning board of appeals, but the final decision rests with trustees. That final OK hinges on Community Development Director William Cooney Jr.'s ability to assuage some trustees' fears that outdoor alcohol consumption will follow ...
