HP adds functionality while lowering the price point of its new series of color laser printers.
Hewlett-Packard (www.hp.com), Palo Alto, Calif., introduced in April its family of five-color LaserJet 8550 Series printers.
The Model 8550 base unit, featuring 32 MB of RAM and a price tag of $4,500, uses the same Canon print engine as HP's 8500 Color LaserJet series, which the new family replaces. Model 8550N, a networked printer with 64 MB of RAM, is priced at $5,500, while the 8550DN has been designed as a high-volume, 64-MB unit priced at $7,200.
